- SuedOstLink will transport environmentally friendly electricity from northern to southern Germany
- High-voltage direct current transmission enables low-loss transport of up to two gigawatts over more than 500 kilometers
The demand for renewable energy is rising. In 2020, global production of electricity from renewable sources, such as wind or solar energy, increased by 10.3 percent. Most environmentally friendly electricity in Germany is produced on land and at sea by large wind power plants in the north. At the same time, Germany also needs electricity in its south region where most industrial plants are located, and a growing number of conventional power plants are being taken offline. To ensure a continued reliable supply of energy in Southern Germany, transmission system operators 50Hertz and TenneT are planning to build the SuedOstLink electricity highway. It will transport excess energy from northern Germany and ensure that green electricity can be supplied to the South. Siemens Energy will deliver the converter technology, that will enable the low-loss transport of electricity over more than 500 kilometers.
- Two static synchronous compensator (STATCOM)
systems and two synchronous condensers will ensure stability of Italian
grid
- First space saving, single
phase and containerized 125 Mvar STATCOM solution
Italian transmission system
operator Terna. S.p.A (Terna) has ordered two static synchronous compensator
(STATCOM) systems for grid stabilization from Siemens Energy. It is Siemens
Energy’s first STATCOM order from Italy and will help the country meet new power
grid challenges posed by the energy transition.
- State-of-the-art Reactive Power Compensation systems from Siemens Energy to support the
power supply at three sites in South West Ireland
- Static Compensator technology helps manage grid stability
- Construction will begin in summer 2021 and will be completed in 2023
Siemens Energy has been awarded three contracts from ESB, Ireland’s leading energy company, to
provide state-of-the-art Static Compensator (SVC PLUS) technology to manage grid stability at its
three substation sites in South West Ireland.
We released our second quarter financial results for the fiscal year 2021 on May 5, 2021, at 07:00 AM CEST. The Press Conference Call was broadcasted live at 08:30 AM CEST.
- Supply of Ireland’s first turnkey synchronous condenser system
- Installation of the world’s largest flywheel
- Ensuring grid stability by
providing sufficient inertia, short-circuit power and reactive power
Siemens Energy will supply a synchronous
condenser system to the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), Ireland’s leading
energy company. The grid stabilizing system will be developed at the Moneypoint
power station located in South-West Ireland near Kilrush, County Clare. ESB
recently announced the launch of Green Atlantic @ Moneypoint, an ambitious plan
to transform the County Clare site into a green energy hub, where a range of
renewable technologies will be deployed over the next decade with the capacity
to power 1.6 million homes.
- Finland’s first SF
6-free gas-insulated switchgear will enable climate-neutral power transmission
- Zero global warming potential due to vacuum interrupter and clean-air insulation technology
Siemens Energy has been awarded a contract to deliver ten bays of sulfur hexafluoride(SF
6)-free
gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) to Fingrid, Finland’s transmission system operator. It will be the first
GIS in Finland that replaces SF
6 as the most potent greenhouse gas in the world with “clean air”, a
pure mixture of nitrogen and oxygen with zero potential for global warming. It represents Siemens
Energy’s largest order for SF
6-free high-voltage GIS in Europe to date.
- Three clean hydrogen projects with a total electrolyser capacity of 70 MW submitted to Spanish government
- Tarragona hub-concept to use all co-products like oxygen and heat and supply merchant market
Siemens Energy and Messer Group have entered into a cooperation agreement with the goal to work on green hydrogen projects in the 5 to 50 Megawatt (MW) range for industrial and mobility applications. Within the framework of this agreement Messer Ibérica has already submitted three clean hydrogen projects in the chemical complex of Tarragona to the Spanish government. These projects will have a total electrolyzer capacity of 70 MW.
As one of the world’s leading energy technology companies, Siemens Energy welcomes the
verification of its emission reduction targets by the renowned Science Based Targets initiative
(SBTi). SBTi has verified on a scientific basis that Siemens Energy’s CO2 reduction targets comply
with the Paris Agreement and thus contribute to limiting global warming to the extent stipulated in
the agreement.
- Systems will be among the most powerful STATCOM installations worldwide
- Innovative grid-supporting technology for stabilizing important nodes in the German
transmission power grid and for a successful energy transition
German transmission system operator Amprion has commissioned Siemens Energy with the
construction of two SVC PLUS series static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) systems to further
stabilize the German transmission power grid. The plants will be in Polsum (North RhineWestphalia) and Rheinau (Baden-Württemberg). Both systems are designed for a reactive power
range of +/- 600 Mvar making them among the most powerful systems in the world. In addition,
the STATCOMs will feature innovative grid-supporting control mechanisms allowing the systems to
efficiently compensate for increasing voltage fluctuations in the electrical transmission network.
