- Supporting the country’s efforts towards a
Siemens Energy and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) signed
a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) presided over by Dr. Jochen Eickholt,
Executive Board Member of Siemens Energy AG, and Mr. HeeBong Chae, President
and CEO of KOGAS. This formally marks the start of a strategic alliance for the
green hydrogen production and hydrogen turbine power generation.
Siemens has won a significant order from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) in India to overhaul 18 units of RT48S & RT56 power turbines of Siemens fleet of aeroderivative gas turbines driven by Industrial AVON & Industrial RB211 gas generators along with installation and commissioning services. The turbines are operating at Mumbai High Asset and Neelam & Heera Asset of ONGC in Mumbai.

The joint venture of Siemens Energy and Sumitomo Electric has completed connecting India’s first high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link featuring voltage-sourced converter (VSC) and DC-XLPE cable technology. The 2,000 megawatts (MW) electricity transmission system consists of two converter stations, that are connected via two links comprising DC-XLPE cable and overhead transmission line. It enables the power exchange between Pugalur in the southern state of Tamil Nadu and Trichur in Kerala State in South-West India and supports transmission operator Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) to counter power deficit in India’s southern region and improve the grid stability. Siemens Energy supplied the two converter stations for the ±320 kilovolt (kV) HVDC system while Sumitomo Electric was responsible for the XLPE HVDC cable system in the DC circuit.

The first remote outage was successfully performed and completed for 2 units of an 890MW SendaiNPP in Japan together with Marubeni Utility Services, which is a partner of Siemens Energy in Japan’snuclear industry while Siemens Energy Japan provides strong support from Sendai. As SiemensEnergy is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), the project team was entrusted to supervisethe inspections performed by Nishinippon Plant Engineering and Construction Co Ltd, a subsidiary ofKyushu Electric Power Co Inc, for two units of the LP Turbine. The works involved assembling anddisassembling the turbines under close supervision, fact-finding inspection and remoterecommissioning including vibration assessment during shut down and restart. Remote balancinghas been duly planned but was not needed during restart due to the good vibration behavior of theturbine.

Siemens will set up a high-efficiency HL-class power island for a new combined cycle power plant (CCPP) in South Korea. This will be the first two state-of-the-art HL-class gas turbines that Siemens will supply to a customer in Asia. The new plant, which will be built in Yeoju, in South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province, will run on regasified liquefied natural gas (LNG) and offer a generating capacity of more than one gigawatt. With a maximum efficiency rating of more than 63 percent the gas turbine will allow the power station to get the most out of the valuable LNG for electricity generation, enabling especially economical and environmentally friendly operation. The customer is South Korean EPC SK Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., which is constructing the entire plant for the independent power producer Yeoju Energy Services.

The first-ever Advanced Turbine Efficiency Package (ATEP) will soon be implemented in Asia for customer PacificLight Power Pte Ltd at its existing 800MW power plant in Jurong Island, Singapore, following a recent agreement signed with Siemens Energy. Under this ATEP, new hot gas path parts have been designed using the most advanced, cutting-edge turbine technology. The advanced profiling and aero features, ultra-efficient internal cooling and sealing, optimized stage loading, advanced materials and manufacturing methods will deliver higher operational efficiency, hence significantly reducing carbon emissions.

MISC Berhad for the supply of eight complete topside modules for a floating production, storage,
and offloading (FPSO) vessel

As Japan looks
to gradually phase out the use of inefficient coal-fired thermal power
generation plants and make the transition towards low-carbon energy production,
EPC customer JGC Japan Corporation is leading by example with the first order
for an SGT-800 gas turbine in the country from Siemens Energy. The order was
secured with Siemens Energy for the industrial gas turbine and its related
components to be installed for a power plant that JGC will build for Sumitomo
Chemical in Chiba Works of Ichihara City in Chiba.
